'No, wife,' said the man, 'I will not do that how can I bear to leave my children alone in the forest?-the wild animals would soon come and tear them to pieces.' In Terra, a bioscientist finds himself in a strange position when he accidentally frightens the parents of a baby on a road in the middle of the night. This may have helped sell copies of Terra, but also causes it to be just that little bit disappointing. Benn’s first novel, Terra, has been lauded by none other than Neil Gaiman himself, who compares it to the work of writers Roald Dahl, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett - all of whom set the bar so, so high that no one can ever compare. And then he wrote one, combining his love for comedy and science fiction. One ordinary day on Twitter, he was invited by a publisher to meet up and pitch a science fiction novel. ![]() Mitch Benn is better known as a musician and a comedian, often combining the two in his performances of comedy rock songs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Robinson holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Union University and a J.D. government-embraced racial discrimination – an end that arrived, it would seem, only just yesterday." Basically, he ignores it, trusting your sympathies will surely lean towards those blighted by their diminishment at the hands of such wretches. The main triumph of the book, other than its chilly humour and mercilessly exposing men-skewering, is how Szalay renders the matter of empathy. Szalay seems coldy amused / appalled but somewhat sympathetic about their grim plight and the inadequacies each blankly self-involved protagonist exhibits.
